Restored from an old farmhouse, PashbyMaul Adventures is currently staying at Bed and Breakfast La Colombara, in beautiful Pianezze del Lago, as we await our departure from Italy this weekend. Situated just up the road from our old house, we feel fortunate to be able to stay in our own neighborhood through till the end of our time here. Shockingly, we weren’t even aware of La Colambara’s existence until just recently, when our amazing neighbors told us about it, and we were able to make a reservation to spend our final days among the familiar surroundings of the Colli Berici.
La Colombara’s full details can be found here, but our few days here so far have been so pleasant, it deserves a brief write up. Immediately upon arrival we felt completely at home. Situated on two levels, a taverna (great room with living, dining area, and kitchen), as well as two bedrooms and full bathroom above, this is the sort of floor-plan we would have been comfortable living in for years, not just for the ten days we have rented the place for our departure.
The architectural style of the renovation preserves the feel of the ancient farmhouse, but incorporates all the modern amenities one needs to be perfectly comfortable in the 21st century: Exposed wood beams throughout and rustic tile floors on the ground floor and wood floors on the second level. A modern kitchen with stove and refrigerator conducive to self catering. Two bedrooms comfortably sleep four people, and a fold out couch on the ground floor can easily accommodate two more.
The surroundings of La Colombara are quintessentially idyllic. At an elevation of 100 meters on the slopes of the Colli Berici, the view from the back of the property looks out over the hills and the ancient village of Grancare. It is also possible to relax in the back garden on sun loungers as you enjoy the rustic ambiance. Many walking itineraries can start from the courtyard, including a circle of the valley through fields and along canals. The 150km network of trails are easily accessible as well, not to mention the epic road and mountain biking scene that is the Colli Berici.
Idyllic surroundings, and comfortable accommodations make La Colombara the perfect place to call home base for a relaxed holiday in the Veneto. For exploring the Colli Berici right in your backyard, or as a halfway point between Venice and Verona, La Colombara is ideal, and gets the PashbyMaul Adventures seal of approval!
